Newsletter of the Month

October 2017

Dear Friends of Christian Concourse,

Hi! and we say welcome to the Autumn months! Here we go again, rounding into another change of seasons, but we do so with the knowledge that God is still on the throne. His sovereignty and dominion and authority are unshakable. We would tell anyone of the Lord’s power and might.

Surprises often pop up in our path, do they not? Many of these surprises are very sobering and very bad. Massive storms and earthquakes and terrifying mass murders, along with all those personal disasters that fall on us in the course of our daily lives, these things can shake us to the core of our being, even to tears; tears for our own pain and tears for the pain and the loss of others. But our Creator, our Heavenly Father still loves us with an everlasting love which He manifests daily in our lives by His abiding Holy Spirit in our hearts.

In the early years of our Christian walk, we read about God’s unfailing love with presumptuous confidence. No doubt many of us carried our courage like the logo to an exclusive club of super saints. We had "head knowledge" that lacked a lot of proven experience "under fire" in the furnace of devastating trials, relentless temptations, personal tragedies and self-wrought failures. Over time, on this pilgrim journey we are on, with our Father by our side, we have learned first-hand of His unflagging faithfulness in the face of our weakness and our faults. For sure, we still have faith, but our faith is much less in our faith and more and more in the mighty Hand we hold as we stumble along in His footsteps. Oh, how true He has proven Himself! How loving He has been, even when we were (or "are") childish and disobedient. Indeed, His loving kindness never fails. We are astounded to find that His optimism about our eternal destiny continues through thick and thin. Compared to the shallow professions of the early years of our walk with Jesus, now from much deeper in our hearts, our testimony has become very much a real part of who we are, confession that His forgiveness and His mercy endures forever. With tears of joy, joy right in the midst of our sorrow and our pain, we embrace our Daddy ever tighter with a love that is new every morning! Praise God! The Comforter has come!

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. 1Peter 5:10 KJV

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by Whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:1-6 KJV

Most, if not all, of you know that we minister personally in several care facilities in the Hampton Roads area and indirectly through the materials we provide to hundreds of missionaries to elderly and infirm saints all over the country. Some of you empower us with regular financial support and with prayer. Thank you for your kindness. In the course of this work we have witnessed the miracle of grace in the lives of many nursing home residents. God has proven His steadfast love through thick and thin in their lives. He has given them the strength of character to hold on to Him no matter what in the battles of life on earth. They have seen His hand in their circumstances and felt His touch in their hearts over and over. Despite their struggles, despite their suffering, despite their losses, you can clearly see the nature of the Holy Spirit shining through for any who have the eyes to behold. It is our privilege to be called to nursing home ministry and to be an encouragement to these little children of God, these mighty warriors, seasoned veterans among the precious lambs marching with our Great Shepherd, the Lord Jesus.

Oh, may each of us, in the midst of our own struggle and pain be encouraged by the lives of so many of our senior saints whose cheer and affection is a clear testimony to the faithfulness and the love of Christ - for them AND for us!

Love in Christ,

Jerry and Dar

Reminder:  "Comforting Words of Grace, Number Two" is here!!! We are honored and blessed to be able to announce that the second DVD in the series, "Comforting Words of Grace" is now complete and ready for distribution. (View segments of these DVDs here.)  Using the same format as the first in the series, this hour-long video plays the instrumental and vocal renditions of nine hymns from the middle of our hymn booklet, "Favorite Hymns of Grace" while showcasing many short clips of God’s wonderful, beautiful creation. During the instrumentals, scriptures are displayed on the screen and read out loud that relate to the message in each song. We have prepared and produced this resource and make it available upon request, at no charge (as resources allow), as a tool for ministry especially geared for the elderly, the infirm and those suffering from dementia.
