Fellow Pilgrims,

Greetings to all! Well, here we go, sailing into the doldrums of July, begrudgingly adjusting to the heat and the bugs! May God’s blessings be on each of us as we embrace the summer sun, the circumstances and the relationships that He has orchestrated and allowed into this season of our life.

In line recently at the post office, waiting to mail some of our nursing home ministry materials, Jerry asked the gentleman in front of him how his lifetime had been. The man replied, "Pretty good". After thinking for a moment, he added, "There is always somebody worse off than you!"

Many people find consolation in the knowledge that the problems they face are not as bad as the calamities their neighbors are enduring. In some way, this may be an application of the exhortation in the old hymn, "Count Your Blessings". It is true though, that Holy Scripture calls on God’s children to not just observe the struggles of others but to try to do what we can to help them.

Jesus said: "A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him." Luke 10:30, 33-34 (NKJV)

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35 (NKJV)

If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? James 2:15-16 (NKJV)

Those of us directly involved in Christian labor in nursing homes see hardship and human suffering as a matter of course in our endeavors for the Lord. The human distress within the walls of any nursing home is on a scale that many only have a casual notion about. Working for Christ in care facilities is a blessing and an honor, but there is an emotional load carried, and there is a practical price paid as care center ministers pour out their hearts to the hurting and the forgotten. We would do well to remind ourselves of what the Holy Spirit said to us through His servant, Paul, "Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Ga 6:9 (KJV)

In providing free materials for nursing home ministry, we often cross paths with long-term care ministers motivated by the Lord’s call on their life and by compassion for the souls He places before them. We certainly know that a word of appreciation goes a long way to fend off the fatigue of ministry for nursing home missionaries! If you are involved in outreach to care facilities, be encouraged that what you do is vitally important to those who may be unable to demonstrate how important you are to them.

Please know that in your support of the ministry of Christian Concourse your prayers and your donations are vital to us as we pursue the work the Lord has called us to do. You do not rest on the fact that there are others who have it worse than are doing something about it! Thank you!

God bless you in the Name of Jesus!

"Comforting Words of Grace, Number Two" is ready!!! We are honored and blessed to be able to announce that the second DVD in the series, "Comforting Words of Grace" is now complete and ready for distribution. (View the segments of these DVDs here.)  Using the same format as the first in the series, this hour-long video plays the instrumental and vocal renditions of nine hymns from the middle of our hymn booklet, "Favorite Hymns of Grace" while showcasing many short clips of God’s wonderful, beautiful creation. During the instrumentals, scriptures are displayed on the screen and read out loud that relate to the message in each song. We have prepared and produced this resource and make it available upon request, at no charge (as resources allow), as a tool for ministry especially geared for the elderly, the infirm and those suffering from dementia.
