Newsletter of the Month

July 2010

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As you may remember, in January we included a list of seven special prayer requests. These prayer concerns reflect what we feel to be the Lord's expressed will for this ministry. We have included these seven items for prayer below. Please help us in seeking the Lord's blessings and guidance in each of these areas of our labor for Him.

In this newsletter over the next few months, we intend on continuing our explanation of each of these requests. We want to discuss request number five this month:

We pray that God give us a reliable means of extending a helping hand to fellow long-term care laborers throughout the Earth, and especially in third world countries.

God is answering this prayer request already! Some weeks ago a missionary friend of ours shared with us the needs of a ministry to elderly widows in the back-country of Kenya. Her name is Mary McKeever. She labors for our Lord under the covering of Worldwide Discipleship Association. In mission trips to Africa, Mary has developed a relationship with Rev. Peter Onyango -- an indigenous pastor in Orucho Village, Kenya.

Rev. Onyango has a burden for the many elderly widows in and around his village. Many have no means of support, no family to help, and some are responsible for grand-children left orphaned by AIDS/HIV. One widow is living under a tree! They are in desperate need of water, mosquito netting, food, medicine, and firewood. Peter's main resource for these items is donations Mary has been able to send. We want to help Mary help Peter.

Orucho is a small village that does not draw the attention of the ministries in the bigger cities. The land is not good for farming. Those of working age who have survived the AIDS/HIV scourge more often than not earn subsistence wages in manual labor. They usually have one month of flooding rains in April, the rest of the year is dry. The water table under the village has been contaminated. Rain runoff from roofs is their main source of life sustaining water. All their water must be filtered, which is expensive.

In 2008 there was ethnic violence in this region of Africa which left thousands of children orphaned. Peter has started an orphanage to help with this problem too. Does this sound scripturally familiar to you?

James 1:27 -- Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted by the world.

Mary has ministered in Kenya and she has seen these terrible conditions first hand. She has known Peter personally for several years. Worldwide Discipleship Association (WDA) is set up to handle financial wire transactions directly with Peter overseas.

We believe the Lord has graciously brought this need to our attention. Please consider helping us help Mary help Peter! See our website for pictures and more info. Send your donations to:

Worldwide Discipleship Association
Peter Onyango's Account
P. O. Box 142437

WDA will handle the transfer of funds to Africa and send you a receipt for your contribution. Because he is overseas, they retain a reduced rate of only 4% of the donations for Peter to cover these expenses (a very reasonable amount in our opinion). If you have questions, you are welcome to call us at (757)714-3133.

Thank You!

Love in Christ,

Jerry and Dar Johnson

Prayer Requests

We invite you to join with us in our appeal to the Master of the Universe to aid us this year in the following areas:

We ask God Almighty to bless this work with a mighty and effective proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ to the lost...and to confirm His Word with miracles, signs and wonders.

We humbly pray to God the Father for an anointed, solid Word of encouragement to His dear children who are struggling in their faith and their hope in the Eternal Promises of Christ.

We cry out to our Loving Savior for a fresh endowment of His compassion for the hurting, the forgotten, the struggling in long-term care settings all over the world.

We appeal to God for His empowerment and His favor in calling together His soldiers in long-term care volunteerism in our region and in our nation.

We pray that God give us a reliable means of extending a helping hand to fellow long-term care laborers throughout the Earth, and especially in third world countries.

We call on the Great Creative Writer to guide us and inspire us as we pursue production of the seventh edition of "A Handbook for Long-Term Care Ministry."

We ask the Perfect Teacher to lead us to realize our efforts to put the true-inductive, true-seminar-style Bible study, "Chapter & Verse," on the world-wide web for the edification and the unity of the Body of Christ all over this planet.

In obedience and submission to Your leading in this, Your ministry, we lay these petitions before You, Father and yield to Your wisdom, Your timing and the proportion of Your provision - for Your Eternal Glory - in the wonderful, precious Name of Your Dear Son, Jesus Christ.
