Newsletter of the Month

June 2010

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As you may remember, in January we included a list of seven special prayer requests. These prayer concerns reflect what we feel to be the Lord's expressed will for this ministry. We have included these seven items for prayer below. Please help us in seeking the Lord's blessings and guidance in each of these areas of our labor for Him.

In this newsletter over the next several months, we intend on continuing our explanation of each of these requests. We want to discuss request number four this month:

We appeal to God for His empowerment and His favor in calling together His soldiers in long-term-care volunteerism in our region and in our nation.

We have been praying and meditating on the implications of the imminent demographic expansion in long-term care that is just beginning to hit the shores of our mission field. All of us by now are well aware of the reality of the baby-boomer effect on populations in our local care centers and nursing homes that will keep cresting for many years to come. It is not just that the wind is changing or picking up, but a huge storm is looming and the first bank of dark clouds are in sight!

Gathering the Christian missionaries whom the Lord Jesus has called to volunteer and minister in this field is one practical response. The reinforcement, the revitalization, the sharing of visions, needs, ideas and resources are all priceless. Such infusion of fresh enthusiasm and ministry tools has a huge positive impact on the quality of our service to the benefit of long-term care residents. Therefore, we believe it is the Lord's wisdom to continue in our pursuit to convene these meetings.

Our first regional convention last November was a huge success. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Of course, there are difficulties: the expenses, the amount of work in preparation for a convention, the coordination of so many people, the unforeseen "disasters" that always crop up at the last minute.... Well, we need prayer.

Regional conventions are the obvious springboards for a national convention of LTC Christian volunteers. Currently we know of very few conducted regularly in other parts of the country. There is plenty of work and we need plenty of help....but most of all, again, we need your prayers. To take one more step without the Lord's empowerment and blessing and leading is futile. Please help us pray!

Nursing home populations are growing. The numbers of elderly receiving long-term care at home is exploding. The Christian community needs to make some adjustments to accommodate this reality. Christian universities and colleges, Christian media, denominational leadership, mission boards, and the Body of Christ at large, all need to see a face on this mission field. A convention can help greatly. The residents who feel lost and forgotten by the Church have no voice but ours. We must act -- PRAY! Thank you.

Love In Christ,

Jerry and Dar Johnson

We invite you to join with us in our appeal to the Master of the Universe to aid us this year in the following areas:

We ask God Almighty to bless this work with a mighty and effective proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ to the lost...and to confirm His Word with miracles, signs and wonders.

We humbly pray to God the Father for an anointed, solid Word of encouragement to His dear children who are struggling in their faith and their hope in the Eternal Promises of Christ.

We cry out to our Loving Savior for a fresh endowment of His compassion for the hurting, the forgotten, the struggling in long-term care settings all over the world.

We appeal to God for His empowerment and His favor in calling together His soldiers in long-term-care volunteerism in our region and in our nation.

We pray that God give us a reliable means of extending a helping hand to fellow long-term care laborers throughout the Earth, and especially in third world countries.

We call on the Great Creative Writer to guide us and inspire us as we pursue production of the seventh edition of "A Handbook for Long-Term Care Ministry."

We ask the Perfect Teacher to lead us to realize our efforts to put the true-inductive, true-seminar-style Bible study, "Chapter & Verse," on the world-wide web for the edification and the unity of the Body of Christ all over this planet.

In obedience and submission to Your leading in this, Your ministry, we lay these petitions before You, Father and yield to Your wisdom, Your timing and the proportion of Your provision - for Your Eternal Glory - in the wonderful, precious Name of Your Dear Son, Jesus Christ.
