Newsletter of the Month

March 2017

Dear Friends,

Greetings to one and all! We trust this little letter finds you and yours safe and warm in this blustery month of March. Time marches on! In our ministry to those who call long-term care their "home," we are often reminded that you cannot stop the clock from ticking. But the elderly do not have a corner on numbered days: the days are few and the time is short for all of us. None of us know the day or the hour when the Lord may call us home. Let each of us be encouraged by the Holy Spirit to "redeem the time." Redeeming the time is the opposite of wasting time.

Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. Luke 12:37 (NKJV)

Every "church service" we conduct in nursing home ministry, every hymn booklet we share with a care facility resident, every song we sing, every scripture we quote, every Christian concept we communicate is delivered with the knowledge that this is very important business...eternally important business! Thank God Almighty, that we are able to approach our task in ministry in nursing homes with the grace and the love of Christ in our hearts and on our lips. We are not carrying a bag of rocks on our back to throw on the broken and bruised conscience of sinners! No! No! No! We bring the message of SALVATION to any and all who would believe!!! Salvation from the guilt and the power of sin. Salvation from the curse of death and eternal punishment. Salvation from fighting with God over who is in charge. Salvation from confusion and fear and doubt and hopeless despondency. Salvation from the loneliness of a life without a relationship with our Creator. The Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul, taking from the Old Testament in 2Corinthians 6:2, is crying out to all of us to pay attention to the time: "Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." How loudly the alarm of passing time sounds for us all.

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:14-17 (KJV)

Yes. We carry a wonderful, timely message, this Gospel, this Good News of Christ Jesus. What a priceless joy to encounter so many in nursing home ministry who take seriously the call of Christ in their lives. Often our "church services" are celebrations of joy and hope as the Holy Spirit waltzes among us touching hearts and minds with His loving hand of encouragement and grace. God’s infinite care and love for the precious ladies and gentlemen to whom we are privileged to minister is ever evident to us. It is a wonder to watch Him pour Himself out on their hurt and need as they open their hearts up to Him.

We have a special prayer request for those who are inclined to carry us to the Lord on the wings of their prayers. On the 14th of this month we will be in Lynchburg, Virginia at Lynchburg College. They are hosting a "Faith-based Conference on Aging," and have invited us to come and make our free materials available for those attending the event. Please pray for us as we prepare the materials and make the trip and carry these useful tools of Christian ministry that the Lord has blessed us with to give them. It is a great opportunity, but we are familiar with the physical difficulties of such an endeavor. So we covet your prayers.

As in every letter, we thank each of you who support us sacrificially with your finances and the undergirding of prayer. May God richly reward you!

Love in Christ,

Jerry and Dar

"Comforting Words of Grace, Number Two" is ready!!! We are honored and blessed to be able to announce that the second DVD in the series, "Comforting Words of Grace" is now complete and ready for distribution. (View the segments of these DVDs here.)  Using the same format as the first in the series, this hour-long video plays the instrumental and vocal renditions of nine hymns from the middle of our hymn booklet, "Favorite Hymns of Grace" while showcasing many short clips of God’s wonderful, beautiful creation. During the instrumentals, scriptures are displayed on the screen and read out loud that relate to the message in each song. We have prepared and produced this resource and make it available upon request, at no charge (as resources allow), as a tool for ministry especially geared for the elderly, the infirm and those suffering from dementia.
